A local production company has condemned a “lowlife” vandal who defaced a poster of Anne Frank with anti-Semitic symbols.
The Peridot Theatre Company in southeast Melbourne hosted their opening night of The Diary of Anne Frank on Friday night.
But while actors took to the stage, a vandal spray-painted a swastika on the promotional poster outside.
The vandalism was noticed by a stage crew member after the show.
The production company reacted to the graffiti on Facebook, condemning the act as “sickening”.
“Upset, angry, disgusted,” the company wrote in a statement.
“We are honoured to tell Anne’s story. We say NO to hate.”
A spokesman for Victoria Police confirmed to 7NEWS.com.au they had been made aware of the vandalism.
They are appealing for witnesses to come forward with any information.
It’s understood the production company removed the graffiti themselves within a day of discovering it.
