Holocaust remembrance

The Board of Deputies manages all major Holocaust commemorations in NSW.

Each year we organise three events for Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day) – one in the Eastern Suburbs, one on the North Shore and a name-reading service at the Martyr’s Memorial in the Jewish section of Rookwood cemetery.

We also host the annual Kristallnacht commemoration in November.

In addition to commemorations, we have a cooperative relationship with the Sydney Jewish Museum and regularly chaperone members of parliament, councillors and senior media executives through it’s exhibitions.

Holocaust remembrance also entails reaching out to the younger generation. The Zachor candles initiative is a way that school children can be involved in remembrance activities.
