Organised by the NSW JBD Shoah Remembrance Committee, this year’s commemorations spanned several events across Sydney, reflecting a strong commitment to ensuring broad communal access and participation.
This year’s theme, “Survivors in Australia: Rebuilding Lives,” shifted a little bit the focus from the horrors of the Shoah itself to the extraordinary contributions survivors made after arriving on Australian shores. Rather than a keynote address, survivors’ voices were placed at the centre of the program sharing stories not only of survival, but of renewal, gratitude, and active contribution to Australian society.
Across the commemorations, attendees heard reflections on migration, rebuilding after unimaginable loss, and the way survivors transformed trauma into lives defined by purpose, compassion, and civic contribution. Musical segments, personal testimonies, and multi‑generational reflections reinforced the enduring legacy of those who survived and the values they passed on to their families and the wider community.
