NSW Jewish Board of Deputies responds to Australia’s vote in the UN General Assembly:
“The people of Israel and Jews around the world have long yearned for peace and continue to do so. We pray for the day when Israel is no longer preyed upon by its enemies, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has been resolved and young Israeli mean and women are free to enjoy their youth without having to serve in the IDF.
Reflecting this aspiration, an overwhelming majority of Israelis have repeatedly shown a willingness to make painful and far-reaching concessions for peace. Israel made comprehensive offers to the Palestinians for full statehood in 2000 and 20008 which were both rejected, and withdrew entirely from Gaza in 2005. In return, Israel received the second intifada in which thousands of Israelis were murdered and wounded in suicide bombings, and witnessed Hamas take power in Gaza in 2007 and turn it into a terrorist enclave base for operations against Israel..”
