Shofar 2021

Outdoor shofar blowing
The exemption has been granted for approved shofar blowers only at
specific locations, under strict conditions.

All Health Orders remain in full force and effect.

This means:
  • You cannot participate if you are in an area of concern. You cannot leave your 5km radius or LGA.
  • At all times wear a mask and strictly maintain social distancing.
  • Police will be at all shofar blowing locations to strictly enforce compliance with the Health Orders by those who have come to hear the sound of the shofar, and with exemption conditions.
  • If you would like to hear the shofar you must be undertaking an exempt activity as per the Health Orders.
  • It is essential you do not gather, mingle or congregate around the Shofar blower or anyone else. Remain socially distant from all other groups/families. Do not stop walking or moving while awaiting the sound of the shofar.
  • The rabbis will be blowing 30 notes only. This will take five minutes maximum. Once the shofar starts to be blown you may stand still for those five minutes to hear the sound of the shofar and pray silently, but keep well away from anyone who is not a member of your household.
  • At the end of the five minutes, once you have heard the shofar being sounded, move away from the area immediately so that others can come and listen. Do not loiter, schmooze or clog up pathways or passages. At all times be mindful and considerate of others.
Wishing you and your family a Shana Tova U’metuka – A Good and Sweet Year.
